Keith (Howdy) Brown

Keith and Julie

Playing in bands has given me some of the best memories of my life.
Playing in bands has given me some of the worst memories of my life.

Playing guitar in the Noblemen falls on the side of the good times.

My experience resulted in growth, understanding, friendship and admiration for all the people and all the configurations this band went through.

My first recording session happened in the Noblemen. My first Les Paul guitar...the Noblemen. My first herbal jazz cigarette...the Noblemen. On and on it could go.

If it was a Summer afternoon in Sutherland or a Saturday in Waterloo, buying really groovy threads at the 520 Store for the gig at the Electric Park Ballroom, we had fun, we had determination, we had each other.

After the Noblemen I continued in music. I joined a group called West Minist'r which eventually built a recording studio in Ft. Dodge (West Minist'r Sound). The studio produced a huge amount of material including Mac's band, Zero Ted Band. During that time I formed a group called Locust which released 4 records nationally. My final production at that studio was Melvin James and his project for MCA records.

Crystal Sound, Des Moines, Ia.

In 1988 my interest shifted to original music for film & video. In rapid succession, we moved to Des Moines, built a house, endured a flood which ravaged that studio and then built a new studio which is now Crystal Sound. I provide filmscores and audio post production for McDonald's, Chevrolet, Firestone and planetarium shows which have featured Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher from Star Trek) Lavar Burton (Star Trek) and several Digi-Star planetarium shows.

Julie & I have been married since 1974. We have 2 daughters. Emily (19) is at the University of Iowa and Kelsey (9) is in fourth grade.

I hope everyone can make it to my studio in the upcoming months and I thank everyone who contributed to my fond memories with the Noblemen.
