This is from the Storm Lake paper.
"Competing in Singing Contest!"
That Kills me...

Great Poster from the
Ridotto Ballroom (1966)

This poster is for a 4th of July gig
at the Armory in Storm Lake, Ia.
It must be from 1968.

Hear the Yellow Canary and the flip side, If I Needed Someone!

Our hit record, "The Yellow Canary". It was recorded at Lynn Recording Studios in Rochester, MN and written by the band with lead vocals by Doug. The flip side was a Beatles song written by George Harrison specially for us. It was titled, "If I Needed Someone".
(that was a joke... I mean, the flip side was really, "If I Needed Someone", but it wasn't... nevermind.)

Our Letterhead

This award marked the first complete band drunk. It was awarded to us in Minneapolis in 1967. We were all in high school but came up on the weekend on our own and stayed in a room at the now defunct Ambassador Inn. Beer was "catered" to us by an anonymous assailant.

Hey, we thought we should make the most out of this award so we took this ad out in the National Ballroom Operators Assoc. (NBOA) magazine. Yes, we were the "Band with the New Beat"!

My guess is that this is from the summer of 1969. The photos from this shoot were taken on a 90+ degree day in and around the streets, railroad tracks, buildings and warehouses of Ft. Dodge, Ia. For more pictures from this shoot, see "Era #3 Photos."

I believe this article by Tom Tourville is from the Ft. Dodge newspaper. Tom has been instrumental in creating the Iowa Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, and in keeping alive all the memories from that rich era of Iowa rock 'n roll. I don't know when this article appeared, but I'll bet if you stop back in a while, someone will have sent me the information. I'll post it as soon as I get it.
